Prescription: Chill Pill
January 12, 2009(I posted this at Dorrie’s Forum as well as Blogspot, so I figured I’d stick it here, too.)
I keep seeing everyone talking about how unimpressed and disappointed they are with the New JS. Some don’t seem to understand that it wasn’t just going to pop right back up the exact same way it was when it crashed. Dylan said himself that they won’t be releasing the source code that the old site was built on (the homepage architecture, features, etc.) for “quite awhile”, so it would be impossible for it to be the exact same.
If you take a little bit of time and look around, you’ll see that it is actually very easy to navigate and that we still have the PM feature as well as other features like the homepage. For updates from the New Journalspace team (3 of them today alone!!!), go to the new homepage and click the “News” tab. They are inviting any and all feedback from us to help make the site the best they can.
It’s not a blogging version of Athena (who was born fully-grown from Zeus’s head): it was never going to spring up as a full-fledged, fully operational, fully loaded blogging site immediately after being bought. They’re working on building it! What you see now is NOT the finished product. It took Dylan 6 years to get the Old JS to the way it was; these guys have had less than 24 hours. Would you be disappointed in a newborn baby for not walking and talking within 24 hours? This new site is a new baby for the new owners. Just give them some time to get things set up before you give up on the New JS, k?

Well put Empress. Couldn’t agree more. It’s a bit naive for people to expect that the new owners inherited much more than the domain name. For a site that was thrown together so quickly after the eBay business transaction it’s pretty good. And unlike my blogspot page I believe comments are actually working.

I was shaking my head at the negative comments too. We were only a few hours in when people started getting crabby. Sheesh!

I’m not actually disappointed, it’s just that I’m not very techno-savvy. So, learning a new site takes me a long time.
I was on JS just lurking for well over a year just commenting on Birmo’s blog before a couple people really got on me to start my own journal and start blogging.
I mean I wanted to, but everytime I went to the blog setup page it just all seemed so daunting and I couldn’t summon the energy or words to get going.
Perhaps this time I’ll buy Blogging for Dummies and HTML for Dummies and see if I can make a better showing of myself. lol
Great post, Mando!

Your big brother’s gonna love you for talking about Zeus and Athena… you know how he likes that stuff!

You know you have to drink a big glass of water when taking a chill pill. Cause it is hard to get that puppy to go down.
But you make a lot of sense.

I agree, let’s give them a chance. So far it’s better than any site I’ve joined because you can see who’s online and the PM feature! On the other sites I feel so isolated, here I feel more at home. We just need to be patient.

Awesome entry you have posted, Amanda!
I agree, all of us need to be patient.
Meanwhile we can go exploring, and learn where stuff is.
Heheee, I’m still learning!
I loveesss the Home page, and the pm’s feature!

I feel the same. But there are always people that feel that way. Let them bitch I say. The ones that are supposed to stay here will stay. And it will be fine. I really like some of the new features a lot. I have missed the homepage more than anything. I’m not going anywhere.

I’m still feeling the new surroundings out. One thing I know, the new picture you posted on the left makes me feel tingly.

Nice Athena reference!
However, I do expect my babies to be walking within 24 hour of being born, talking within 36 and fending for themselves within 48.
That is why I bought the damn cloning machine in the first place!

Well put! I actually like this site better and find it easier to find my old friends on here. I figure every site is not going to be perfect right away at least they got JS up right away fro all of us to have a home again.

I agree capt. Who cares what it looks like. the fact our community has a home again is the most important thing!
