How to Do a YouTube Video
January 14, 2009I’m not sure why we can’t post YouTube videos at the moment, because you can on regular WordPress, but I’m sure it will get figured out soon! In the meantime, this is how to add a link to a YouTube video:
On the “New Post” screen, please note the “Add Media” section! The second button (that looks like a film strip) is the part where you can add a video. When you click on that, this screen will pop up:
In the “Video URL” line, insert the YouTube URL (rather than the embed code). Below that, it will let you title the video. Once you click “Insert into Post”, this is what you end up with:
The JS Disaster: A Leader in Turmoil
I’ll keep looking and exploring (as well we all should) to see if I can figure out why this is different than normal WordPress. If anyone else figures it out, let me know!
Let’s all try to stay positive here, yeah?

I looked at a few of the videos on YouTube that are about posting YouTube videos to WP (I know it is ironic, there are videos that tell you how to post videos). But I could not really figure it out.
There were also some videos about WP MU, but still nothing that worked. Some of the videos indicate that part of the problem is whth the editor. But even when you turn the advanced editor off, it still does not work.
I would love to know how to do this. This is kind of a deal breaker for me. If I can post videos then I will probably post here often.

Fitz: This technique I posted is the exact way to post an actual video to regular WordPress. I have no idea why it’s different for BuddyPress.

I found out how to edit my posts. Thank you. Your page is already looking a bit like ‘normal’ How did you find all the fav/friends and when will it actually have those listed and then it can be more private? I really am trying to be patient. But I don’t know html or what some of the computer logo means. Thanks again:)

The faves/friends is just the “links” widget that you can add to your profile. You have to manually add the links in one by one.

I was thinking of starting a JS2 for Dummies blog, perhaps with your help, but at the moment my motivaiton is zero. Maybe when I get back home it’ll get better again…

You know some of us are huuuuuge video-posting maniacs… can’t wait til this feature works! I’m sure it will - just keep remembering that this place is only HOW old? It’s amazing how far they’ve come (and how far WE’ve come - over 650 members, holy!).
